By "the best" she didn't mean high quality or unique from other teen clothing. It is "the best" because only "the best" people wear it (AKA. cool, popular, beautiful, thin people). And she believes this because that's the message A&F is TRYING to portray.
In this article posted only a few days ago, the CEO of A&F is questioned as to why they refuse to stock ANY XL or XXL women clothing. Their answer? Plus sized women aren't "cool enough" to wear their clothes. The only good thing that can be said about this article is at least Abercrombie's CEO is candid about his opinion (however discriminatory and insensitive it may be). Here are some of the finer quotes from the article:
"He doesn't want larger people shopping in his store, he wants thin and beautiful people," Lewis told Business Insider. "He doesn't want his core customers to see people who aren't as hot as them wearing his clothing. People who wear his clothing should feel like they're one of the 'cool kids.'"
"We hire good-looking people in our stores. Because good-looking people attract other good-looking people, and we want to market to cool, good-looking people. We don’t market to anyone other than that."
"We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely."
Blatantly and unashamedly prejudice. Who is this guy??? Honestly, I'm not too shocked when you consider the obvious raciness of their ads which aren't really trying to sell clothes (seriously, this picture was an ad for hoodies and jeans!!!). This whole thing gets my blood boiling, but read the article for yourself and share your thoughts with us. I don't know about you, but in the world of fashion where beauty is already defined in such narrow and harsh way, this company's attitude stands out as particularly twisted. And that's saying something.
