Fashion: Four Looks that Add 5 Pounds

I'm a short curvacious woman and get so discouraged when it comes to clothes. My sisters are "normal" size (whatever normal means) and have yet to need things tailored to fit their bodies. I, on the other hand, always have to get things tailored for my short legs, J-Lo bootie, and well endowed chest. I've been told so many times that if I just lost a few pounds that I would have less need for a tailor. FACT: losing weight does not, and has not, changed my need for a tailor. My legs are still short, and contrary to popular opinion, my boobs will hang on to every ounce of fat they can get for the rest of my life (genetics, gotta love 'em). So in summary, my boobs don't shrink and neither does my height.

Instead of getting discouraged and hating the fashion industry I started to embrace my body and came to the conclusion that I wear my clothes, my clothes don't wear me. (I'm profound, what can I say?) I love fashion. I love how you can express yourself through what you wear. I love a great print headband mismatched with a print top. For some reason huge floral prints from the 80's make me happy. I don't wear them because I'm 5 feet tall and I would look like a flower, but I appreciate them. I've come to the conclusion that my self esteem can't be based on the number I see inside a pair of jeans. I have to forget about the size and ask myself, 'how do these clothes make me feel?' If the answer is gorgeous, fabulous, sexy, beautiful (you get the point) etc...then I know I'm on the right track.

Models aren't the only people who can rock an outfit. Knowing how to dress your body is so important. Over the years I've had my share of, 'did I really wear that?' moments, but you get over them. Promise! Find clothes that make you feel fabulous, that you feel express who you are as a person, but are also flattering to your body type. Again, I love huge floral prints but on me they are not rockin. Not because I'm too skinny, fat, blue, purple, green or orange...to wear them, but because they just aren't flattering on me. (small floral prints are a totally different ball game, and yes, I make any small floral print fabric look good)

So I guess the moral of this blog story is, know yourself and dress who you are. You wear your clothes, they don't wear you! Tim Gunn is brilliant and gives advice in this clip that I honestly believe every women should listen to. ADSENSE HERE
